I am back to explain what I mentioned in my previouse blog post-my spending ban.
- What I’m not buying anymore
- What I hope to achieve this year
Let me first start off with saying that I am a shopaholic..yes..there! I admit it! I love buying new things and I love the feeling that you get when you buy a new clothing item or beauty item. I know I have a problem..but well, can you blame me?!
We are bombarded everyday with the latest trends in fashion and beauty- EVERYDAY!
I remember when it was coming up to Christmas last year and how pressured I felt to get my loved ones the best thing, and if I didn’t get them the best and new thing I felt they would feel so unhappy and I would be so embarassed!
It’s all about that next best, new, thing. It’s not about Christmas and spending time with your family anymore..it’s all about money money money and how much of it you can spend. So frustrating and sad!
It’s not a good feeling when you need to spend money on something to make you feel happy…yes, you feel happy for like a few hours but then you’re searching for the next new thing you need and you have to get it now! It got to the stage where I was broke almost every week and that’s not good. It’s not good when you really want to be able to afford to go and travel and make memories, etc.
Anyways I said (with the help of my boyfriend) enough is enough and I got motivated to save, shop my own closet (I have a tonne of clothes and shoes and accessories), and use up my beauty products. Maybe it’s a little extreme starting off like this and oh boy! I have felt like spending all my weeks wages a few times now but I HAVE to do this. It’s no longer a thing where I say to myself.. “Maybe I won’t buy anything for a week or two” I NEED to save! For the long term.
I do have to point out that of course the essentials like skincare products, underwear and foundations aren’t included in my spending ban because they’re essentials for me. I did run out of my Osmosis cleanser which I repurchased and I have run out of my Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation which I have yet to repurchase but will hopefully do that by the end of the week.
So far, like I said, there have been a few times where I’m scrolling my insta and I see a new pair of boots or new jumpers from my fave shops and I’m thinking to myself “Oooh that will be perfect for now, I’ll get loads of wear out of it” I seem to convince myself that I need it but..really I have loads of jumpers and black boots and I really don’t need it. I just want it.
I read two articles, actually, when I started my spending ban and they really motivated me to start it and really do it. I need to re-read both articles because I really need that motivation again. Article 1 Article 2
Of course, I don’t think this spending ban will ever kill my love for fashion and beauty but I do think it’s going to help me be a bit more minimal and not want to get EVERYTHING that is being brought out!
I actually almost went to the Giorgio Armani counter after I had seen a woman with a Giorgio Armani bag…I wanted to buy a lipstick, an eyeshadow palette, brow pencil and the foundation…All I really need is the foundation because I have loads of eyeshadow palettes which are still almost full and a load of lipsticks… I don’t have a brow pencil but I don’t really need it right now.. It’s crazy!
What I will be doing from now on is shooting outfit posts with clothes I already own and haven’t just bought.
I am going to hopefully show you new ways to wear clothing pieces you already own.
I will, of course, show you the pieces that are out and that I am loving because I really don’t think I can ever stop loving fashion and being intrigued by the colours and styles. It inspires me to do something different with my outfits so I won’t stop that.
So there you have it, that is why I am doing this spending ban. I will be reporting back here and letting you know how I am getting on..shall we say every month?
You can also follow me on my social media platforms where I guess you can keep tabs on if I have bought anything new.
I hope you enjoy this new adventure.. It’s going to be hard but really rewarding in the long run!
Let me know what you think..
